Contemporary steel plate engraving from \The Graphic\" June 20th 1885 showing unveiling of Joseph Boehm's posthumous marble statue of Darwin on the 9th June 1885. It is positioned in pride of place at the head of the main stairs in the Central Hall of the British Museum of Natural History. The statue was later moved (1927) in favour of a statue of his scientific rival Richard Owen who was instrumental in founding the museum in 1881. Darwin's statue moved back again in 2009 as part of Darwin's bicentennial celebrations. Presiding at the event can be seen the Prince of Wales and Huxley 'Darwin's Bulldog' and President of the Royal Society center. Darwin's long-time friend Joseph Hooker of Kew can be seen far right together with various scientists and luminaries of the day."
