STS-29, Astronaut Springer Taking Photos

Astronaut Robert Springer takes photographs of the Earth using a Linhof camera, during Mission STS-29. Cameras were used extensively on all Shuttle missions, not only to photograph Earth, but to record life onboard the spacecraft. A mixture of 35mm and 70mm still cameras were used, in addition to motion picture and video cameras. As the Shuttle spent most of its time orbiting with its roof facing Earth, photography of the Earth's surface was often performed looking through the roof windows, as here. Discovery's mission STS-29 was launched on March 13th, 1989, and made a safe return to Earth on the 18th of that month.
