Detail of the Saville Theatre frieze by Gilbert Bayes (1872 - 1953) The frieze on its outside wall is all that reminds of the old Saville Theatre at the top end of Shaftesbury in 1931 it staged plays and musicals until the manager of the Beatles, Brian Epstein, bought it and started promoting rock concerts there on Sunday nights. Jimi Hendrix performed his last UK concert there and the Beatles themselves used the venue for shoot the video for their single Hello Goodbye. After Epstein's death in 1967 the theatre was sold and is now Odeon Covent Garden cinema. Shaftesbury Avenue,WC2
