Hait*an ^ Jtg hay and — Lying between the island ofthe same name and the coast, this inlet may be entered by shipswith a draught of 21 feet. Excellent anchorage is found there,with depths of from 30 to .50 feet. The tidal stream is very strong,and is to be guarded against when vessels enter and current attains a velocity of 5 knots at high-water of springtides. Hsinghwa ^ ffc bay,—This is a fine bay, but the entranceto it is difhcult. THE COAST OF FOKIEN. 277. SAMSA or SANSHA H \p BAY. Amoy or Hsiantên ^ f^ bay, — {see below : Amoy. p. 279). TungfifiMn ^ |Jj bay. — This bay has deep anchorage,and is one of the best of this coast. Islands. — Rocky and bare, they are nearly all inhabitedby fishermen whose boats go far out to sea. The most importantis the island of Amoy, though it is not the largest.
