The 19th century lime kilns still stand in redwood forest of Lime Kiln State Park. Limestone was quarried in the nearby hills and brought to the kilns by pack mule. After the lime was baked the barrels were then slid down a wire to the beach and loaded on boats anchored in the nearby inlet. A short trail leads from the beach to the kilns.
