Periclimenes tosaensis belongs to the family of commensal shrimps, Palaemonidae. It is a cleaner shrimp living in reefs.

This crustacean species has a wide distribution from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific. It's generally found associated with mushroom corals, anemones or the Upside-Down jellyfish (Cassiopeia) in tropical coral reefs. It often appears in smaller groups offering its "cleaning service" to other reef inhabitants. There are several similar Periclimenes species in tropical coral reef, which are difficult to distinguish as coloration patterns vary even within one species. The maximum length described for P. tosaensis is about 2,5 cm. This shot is a close-up. It was taken in the Solomon Islands in 2002.
