The snow contains pockets of air which makes it an excellent heat insulator, allowing the air inside to be several degrees above freezing. The Eskimos, or Inuit, are an aboriginal people who show physical adaptations to living in the cold. They are distributed through Siberia, Alaska, Canada and Greenland.
