Top of the Neoclassical façade of the Church of Gran Madre di Dio in Borgo Po district with the statue of Faith, Turin, Piedmont, Italy

The church of Gran Madre di Dio is a Neoclassic-style church located at the western side of the bridge dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele I, in Borgo Po district. The church was conceived in 1814 to celebrate the return of the King Victor Emmanuel I of Sardinia to the throne, after the defeat of Napoleon. Its project was the work of the court architect Ferdinando Bonsignore. The construction was inaugurated in 1831 and its shapes and dimensions are openly inspired by those of the Pantheon of Rome, of Neoclassical-Adrian style. The tympanum of the church states: ORDO POPVLVSQVE TAVRINVS OB ADVENTVM REGIS, which can be translated as: The Nobility and the Population of Turin for the Return of the King.
