Major-General Winfield Scott (1786-1866) American soldier. During the Mexican-American War 1846-1848 Scott commanded the southern of America's two armies. Scott pictured at the Battle of Veracruz, 20 day siege of the city 9-29 March 1847, pointing to the warships in the harbour. American forces took the city and marched on to Mexico City. Thius was the first large-scale amphibious assault by the nited States forces. Lithograph.
