Their pledges inthat editorial fulfilled, the staff of The Starsand Stripes emerged from the obscuritywhich they had assumed and obtruded theirown views and the personalities of some oftheir members on the readers of the Editorial Staff solemnly pledged that thepaper, when folded away should remain amemory of the past, their contribution to thememory of the men who had read it and diedfor liberty, as well as to those who had foughtwell and returned home to enjoy the fruits oftheir victory. However, there was one man who was onthe original staff of The Stars and Stripeswho did not bind himself to this pledge, andcoming home before the last issue was pub-lished overseas he began publishing an Amer-ican edition of The Stars and Stripes inWashington, D. C. This newspaper, stillcalled The Stars and Stripes is still First papers off the press starting for the men in hospitals. American Red Cross. Aespecial Baldridge cartoon entitled TheDawn, which showed American soldiers, theirtask completed, with arms outstretched to-ward the glorious West whence they hadcome. The photographs depicted the changeswhich came about from the time the firstAmerican outfit arrived in France to thedeparture of a transport from Brest with thefirst contingent of Yanks homeward bound.
