It is now but a great heapof earth held in place by the walls, which are quitewell preserved on the east side and sloping off fromedge toward the centre and north. The greaterportion of the stonework has been removed, andburned to make lime. ^On the table land, a little tothe southwest of the fort, was the old entrenchedcamp, the scene of the engagement between Dieskauand General Johnson in I-.\KI<] GEOROE 21 Battle Monument stands on the open groundSociety of Colonial Wars of the State of NewVork ard unveiled with imoosing civic and raililary ceremonies September 8. 1903.
