June 25, 2018 - Orlando, Florida, United States - A Customs and Border Protection Officer takes a photograph of a young girl arriving with her family from the United Kingdom at Orlando International Airport in Orlando, Florida on June 25, 2018. Through the use of biometric facial recognition technology, the photograph is immediately matched with a gallery of historical passport and other photos of the traveler maintained by the government in order to verify the traveler's identity. The new technology, which is more efficient than the passport and fingerprint scans of the past, can verify a passenger's identity in less than two seconds with 99 percent accuracy. While the technology is used on a smaller scale at six other airports, Orlando International Airport went live with the system on May 4, 2018 and is the first airport to fully use biometric facial recognition technology for both arriving and departing international travelers.
