We started at two oclock on the morn-ing of Sunday, April 2d, and two hours later we had reached our allottedplaces within the intrenchments, having been harmlessly attacked while enroute. At four oclock that morning while our artillery was maintaining a furiouscannonade, our assaulting columns advanced and succeeded at three points inbreaking through the outer line of rebel intrenchments, which Union soldiershad never before penetrated.
