The wholedevice is a combina-tion of ordinary pipefittings. From the two valves there are bushings toi-in. ells, which in turn lead to a tee, to which is con-nected another short bushing which is plugged at theend, a ^-in. hole being bored through the plug. Under the former method of cleaning eight cars con-stituted a good days work, whereas it is now possibleto wash as many as twelve cars thoroughly with thesame labor besides two or three flivvers, as E. , general superintendent, facetiously puts it. Theonly difficulty encountered, which is a minor one, is thehandling of the double-hose line to keep it from gettingtwisted.
