A Brief Historical Account of the Settlement and Organization of theCounty and its two Principal Towns, Lewis and Atlantic,with a List of the Leading Business Firms. Cass County was first settled by the Mormons. It was organ-ized in 185S, by the organizing sheriff, Mr. Wm. S. Townsend. Itis 24 by 36 miles square, is in the third tier of counties from thesouthern line of the State, and the second county from the Mis-souri River, or western border. It was named for Gov. LewisCass. The county has upwards of two thousand inhabitants. Theprincipal towns are Atlantic and Lewis. They are both pleasantplaces, with a most beautiful country surrounding them. Thecountry surrounding each of these towns may be styled the gardenof the State; it has beautiful streams of water running throughdifferent i)arts.
