EXPLORING THE WORLD His experiences with gliders, sometimes frustrating, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, guided us on the way to discovery. Through these experiments they were able to solve the problem of sustained support and, more importantly, they were able to control an aircraft in flight. The Wright brothers felt then that they were prepared to fly, but first, they had to find an engine for their aircraft. Due to the technological advances of height, the use of internal combustion engines in aircraft seemed feasible. However, unable to find a commercial engine light enough, the Wright Brothers developed their own engine. Although less efficient and potent than Samuel Langley's, the Wright brothers realized that relatively little power was required given the use of propeller surfaces and propellers. However, the necessary propellers did not yet exist. By combining the data obtained from marine propeller theory with the results they collected from their wind tunnel, the Wright Brothers were able to design the first efficient aircraft propeller in what is one of their most original scientific achievements. About the BrothersWright, Wilbur and Orville. "Exploring the world" is part of a series of experimental essays developed by João Dias + Pedro Pires, in which they propose new ways of seeing the world, putting themselves in the place of the explorer. They find inspiration in the early expeditions to Africa or the North Pole, as in the daredevils that launched into Niagara Falls in a wine kite. They re-enact these feats of the past as if they could be part of them and somehow integrate the history of the world.
