They had carried the first line of works, capturingnearly about twelve hundred prisoners, several guns and held their captured line until dark and then retired for want ofsupport. All day of the nth no attempt was made to renew the assault, butcontinual and heavy skirmishing was kept up upon our men, whowere erecting works.
