Closeup of The Haedi in Auriga
Closeup of The Haedi in Auriga. The lower two stars (Eta and Zeta Aurigae) are traditionally known as the Haedi, the two goat kids carried by Auriga the Charioteer, though the upper star, Epsilon Aurigae, is sometimes included in the group. This is an unusual eclipsing binary star which dims in brightness every 27 years as a result of (in this case) an unknown object passing in front of our line of sight to the star every 27 years. An eclipse started in 2009-2010. Field of view approx 4º x 6º. Image made 21 August 2009.
