In the first experiments the disk D was removed, and a setof curves obtained representing the distribution of pressureand current for values of z varying from 020 to 1*91 these only the curves a and c, corresponding to maximumand minimum z respectively, are given for the sake of clear-ness. The rest fit in satisfactorily between these two extremes, and show in every case :— Mass of the Ions in the Electric Wind in Air. 405Curves I. es Cm(S). b 2-5 Cmfs) 406 Prof. A. P. Chattock on the Velocity and That the pressure-area increases and the pressure-intensity falls as z increases ;That the pressure-intensity is higher for + than for —discharge, the ratio of + to — being greatest at thecentre and diminishing to a value not far from unityat the edges of the pressure-area ;That the area over which the current is received isroughly coincident with the area over which the pres-sure is at all considerable ;And that the current-area is slightly greater for — thanfor + similar set of curves was also obtained with the disk Din position, the point being arranged to project about half acentimetre below the surface of D. The maximum value ofz in this case was 1*88 centim. and corresponds with the curvesmarked b. As the curves for very small values of z were notmaterially altered by the presence of D, curves c may be takento represent tho
