With the thermometer hovering around the zero point and about two inches of snow on the ground, trade has slackened up a good deal, though enough business is done to keep all stock used up, as the supply is light. Eoses seem to be the most plentiful and are being used for all occasions. Carnations, as usual at this time of the year, are quite scarce. Paper Whites and Romans are coming in, but are not nearly so plentiful as at this time last year. Some few jonquils are to be seen, but they are shipped in. It is a little too early for other bulb- ous stock and it will not be ready for a fortnight, at least. Sweet peas, vio- lets and valley are about equal to the demand. The demand for orchids and gardenias has been I'ght since the first of the 3'ear, as there has not been much doing in society. Funeral work has been the main feature, though at no time has there been a rush, just enough to keep stock cleaned up. Galax leaves, magnolia and other pre- pared stock have been used to good ad- vantage, owing to the shortage of fresh flowers. There is not much to be had in potted plants at present; a few azaleas are about all. Some few prim- roses are coming in, but will improve in quality as the season advances. Green goods have been in good supply. K. R. Syracuse, N. Y.—Gustave Bartholme has not been in first-class trim since the holiday rush; the extra strain tells for some time. The weather was fine and a record business was the result. Carnation Calyx An eflfective cure for splits. Simple and indestructible, made of brass. Does not retard the growth of flower at all.
