Frozen lowlands near Skogafoss, South Iceland
Area of lowland off Highway 1 on the way to Skogafoss falls, South Iceland. It's very bleak here, silent and lonely. With only 4 hours of daylight, it was important to work fast. There is very little vegetation in Iceland. Glaciers carve and erode the volcanic landscape to form valleys. Seismic activity is constantly monitored. Iceland had been facing an unprecedented increase in tourism, having to import food at peak season as it doesn't grow much food except greenhouse vegetables which are heated by geothermal heating. The environment is spotless. Icelanders are highly educated people. The population has a very high percentage of published authors. The dramatic landscape has been used for films and tv programmes due to its mystical beauty.
