This is a real situation. Image not to be used in a defamatory context. Pure tone audiometry test. Adult patient in a sound-proof room (behind glass screen) during an audiometric hearing test. The audiometrist (right) is using the machine in front of her to generate a range of sounds of varying amplitude (volume) and frequency (tone). The patient, listening through headphones, will indicate by pressing the button in her hand whether she can still hear the sound. This will allow the audiometrist to produce an audiogram, showing the patient's hearing range. This is known as pure tone audiometry (PTA).
