The Gladiatorremained in Florence until within a few years, when it was destroyed. Mr. Perkins had hoped, that, by taking these casts to Europe, he might winfor his friend a recognition abroad which would greatly improve the artists standingat home. These good intentions came to nought. In a true sense, it was unjustto Dr. Rimmer to bring his work into comparison and competition with the pro-ductions of foreign artist
