The £300million Southern Water's Peacehaven WTW in East Sussex serving Brighton and the surrounding area.

The new Southern Water Waste Water Treatment Works at Peacehaven in East Sussex The £300 million environmental improvement scheme includes a new wastewater treatment works and sludge recycling centre, two pumping stations, 11km of sewer tunnel and a long sea outfall. When complete, the new works will treat 95 million litres of wastewater generated each day by the residents of Peacehaven, Telscombe Cliffs, Ovingdean, Rottingdean, Saltdean and Brighton and Hove. Work on the new treatment works at Peacehaven neared completion, with wastewater due to be introduced to the site during the summer of 2012 as part of the commissioning process. The new sewer tunnel is complete and links the old Victorian network with the treatment works. It also connects the works to the long sea outfall. An 18,000 square metre ‘green’ roof, which conceals part of the works, was also completed. The roof, the largest in the UK, is designed to blend with the downland surrounding the site and is covered with a special grass mix. Due for completion in March 2013, the scheme was recognised with two gold Considerate Constructors Scheme awards during the year.
