Ham House, Petersham, Surrey, c1800. Petersham is now in the London borough of Richmond upon Thames. Ham House was built in 1610 for Sir Thomas Vavasour, Knight Marshal to King James I. It was enlarged in the 1670s when it became a focal point of Restoration court life and intrigue.
