Joseph Hume (1777-1855). Scottish born and Edinburgh educated doctor, politician and social reformer. As a Member of Parliament, at various times he represented Weymouth, Aberdeen, Middlesex, Kilkenny, and Montrose. Opposed flogging in the navy, the anti-worker combination laws. Worked to establish many schools and a savings bank.
