Leh Palace built in the sixteenth century by Sengge Namgyal. It was abandoned in the 1940s. It is a textbook example of medieval Tibetan architecture, in the style of Lhasa's Potala Palace in Tibet. Namgyal Tsemo gompa or monastery in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Ladakh shows how Himalayan Buddhism functions in a free democracy. Most villages have a gompa and community of monks.
