Jimmy White was a renowned lone thief who had been on the run for ten years before the robbery even happened. He had known Reynolds for a long time and acted as the quartermaster for the gang as well as helping Roy James to uncouple the two front coaches from the rest of the train. Thanks to his ability to blend in with his surroundings and become the ultimate 'Mr Nobody', Jimmy White avoided arrest for three years, even though he never left England following the robbery. However in April 1966, he was recognised by one of his new friends as the wanted train robber and reported to the police. White was arrested and sentenced to 18 years in prison. Unfortunately for White, some of his money was found when police discovered his caravan with £30,000 hidden in the panels. He was also let down by friends and associates during his three years on the run meaning that when he was finally arrested he had just £8,000 to hand over to the authorities.
