C11th free-standing round tower of Irish style in Abernethy churchyard, Perthshire: 22m high, rebuilt on 12 course of an earlier base.

C11th free-standing round tower of Irish style in Abernethy churchyard: 22m high, rebuilt on 12 course of an earlier base. Dark Age site associated with a vanished Pictish monastery, the compiling of the Pictish king-list & the return of Irish clergy to Pictland in the C9th after Viking raids. This and a similar one at Brechin are the only two 'Irish' towers to survive in Scotland.
