At the entrance, four pipes run from the bottom up through one of the sides, this drained the water with pumps when the dock was pumped empty. The ship door has double skin up to two thirds of the height, the inner caisson is divided into four compartments. Each compartment has a mechanical pump, a drain valve and two sliders that connect it to the neighboring compartments. There are two hand pumps for the space between the double skin. The mechanical pumps are connected at the top to a single drive mechanism, which must be driven by a steam engine, they all connect to two pipes that lead on both sides outside the ship door. Two square channels run straight through the ship's door, which are closed in the middle with a spindle, operated with a winch inside: these channels are not connected to the inside of the ship's door, but only let water in or out of the dry dock. There are no inlets in the outer skin of the ship's door, which can however be seen in the drawings.
