King penguins (Aptenodytes patagonicus) waiting to enter the ocean for fishing. These birds are highly social, living and breeding in large colonies. In the early morning, the whole colony departs to hunt small fish and squid. King penguins often hunt in small groups, the older birds directing less-experienced individuals to the best feeding grounds. They are found in the sub-Antarctic and on cool islands in temperate areas of the southern hemisphere. Photographed on the island of South Georgia.
