Charles Thomas Philippe Ulm AFC - An early press portrait of Captain Charles Ulm (1898-1934) who set the 1933 air speed record England to Australia - 6days 17 hours 56 minutes = The Australian born pioneer aviator. He is perhaps best known for being the business advisor & co-pilot to Sir Charles Kingsford Smith who he was in partnership with when they established (the failed) Australian National Airways. Ulm also carried the first official airmail from New Zealand to Australia,and from Australia to Papua New Guinea. Hed disappeared in 1934 on a test flight from California to Hawaii.
