Face of an elderly male patient, showing anaemia (haemoglobin 65) in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). This type of leukaemia is the most common form of blood cancer in adults over 60, in which cancerous cells in the blood and bone marrow result in a shortage of red blood cells producing aplastic anaemia. Apart from being diagnosed by a blood count, anaemia may cause pale skin, tiredness and headaches. (See image of patient after treatment of the anaemia).
