This firm started in the business about ten years ago with one house, 16x36 feet, erected by Thurwanger & Son. One ye;ir later another house was added, the same size as the tirst. The expansion of the business of this firm was such that the following year two more houses were added, 25x50 feet each. But such rapid progress can never go on unhindered, and while the last-men- tioned houses were under construction, a hail storm struck Kewauee with such force that tlie entire range of the firm was reduced to ruin. The i)uildors were undaunted, however, as the debris was rapidly cleared away and the work com- pleted. The following year a second storm again did much damage to the range and caused anxiety to the own- ers. At this time the old greenhouses were abandoned, and when the new ones were again repaired a wire screen was placed ovei' the glass to protect it from hailstones. At this time two buildings, 17x30 feet, were added. In 1917 another addition, 25x100 feet, was made. To this was added another house, 25xi)5 feet, and in 1921 a lean-to, 7x135 feet, which were used to grow carnations, in order to meet the increas- ing demand for cut flowers. In the spring of 1922 a greenhouse, 34x100 feet, was built, which is devoted en- tirely to the growing of carnations. At the present time there are eight houses, with a total Of about 20,000 square feet of glass. The firm has now 4,000 carnation ])lants, 20,000 geraniums and 3,000 l)ulbs, which include lilies, tulijis and daffodils. There are also 10,000 chrysanthemums, together with several thousand miscellaneous plants. Beacon, N. Y.— Hcnjaniiu Hammond lias issued the certificat
