This fledgling Frigate Bird expressed alarm as I passed its nest while on a tour if Seymour Island, in the Galapagos archipelago, off the coast of Ecuador. It was unclear whether it was still being cared for by its mother or whether it had assumed independence. In either case, like nearly all animals in the Galapagos, it had no natural fear of humans (or any potential predators, for that matter), so I was able to get quite close for this shot. Seymour Island is home to a great many colonies of Frigate Birds, which nest in the very limited selection of tree species.
