Cha Cha Moon is fast food, of mixed Asian inspiration, at low prices, served on long cafeteria-style tables in a sleek dining room. Unlike the now-ubiquitous Wagamama (also created by Alan Yau but no longer run by him), the food here bears a close resemblance to its roots, and represents very good value for money. Yau famously spent months perfecting the broths for the soups on the largely noodle-based menu, and it has paid off - particularly in the case of taiwan beef noodle soup, which presents wheat noodles in a bowl of rich, sweet, beefy stock, with meat so tender it melts, and enough greenery to keep the health-conscious diner feeling somewhat smug. The use of authentic ingredients makes the restaurant more interesting than many other purveyors of noodles in London. Zhajiang mian, with pork, cucumber, carrot and red chilli, was invigorated with rich fermented beancurd. The fried turnip cakes are delicious, their low, rich, solid tones enlivened by the accompanying beansprouts and scrambled egg. Fresh juices provide a bright, if pricey, accompaniment. Intriguingly, this spot also serves breakfast (including thai banana porridge, and various oriental takes on egg and bacon) from 8am weekdays.
