The National Washington monument stands for the US capital. The marble obelisk follows the Egyptian design and stands between the Capitol and Lincoln Memorial on the Mall. The earthquake of 2011 damaged the structure closing the monument to the public. The memorial is scheduled to reopen in 2014.
