Capercaillie


Capercaillie male, (Tetrao urogallus) raised in territorial display. Also known as the Wood Grouse or Heather Cock and the largest member of the Grouse family. A native species in the Caledonian Forest and in forests throughout Northern Europe. The Scottish population of these birds had dwindled significantly during the 20th century but through conservation work the population in now making a recovery in Northern Scotland in areas such as the Cairngorms National Park.
