McCarthy, amember of the Board of Su-pervisors and former President ofthe Fire Commission, was born inSan Francisco December 17, 18 father, Dennis McCarthy, wasone of the founders of the UnitedWorkingmens Boot & Shoe Man-ufacturing Company, of which theson is now president. The futuremunicipal official received his earlyeducation under the instruction ofthe Christian Brothers, later passingthrough the public schools of thecity and graduating from the LowellHigh with the class of 95. Fnter-ing the shoe-manufacturing businesshe speedily mastered its intricaciesto such an extent as to fit him forthe presidency of the important com-pany, and this position he still retains.
