These pumps will work, admitting 30 per cent ofair or 25 per cent of grit, and a continuous run of four monthshas been recorded. They are especially valuable in quicksandand wherever the quantity of water is variable. The cost ofrepairs is nominal. These pumps are made in two types; the standard consists oftwo vertical cylinders, each with a discharge and suction valve, topped by one simple, three-cylinder horizontal engine, with thenecessary air cocks, lubricator and condenser piping, but noBteam, suction or discharge pipe is supplied.
