Caddis larva UK

A caddis larva, order Trichoptera, and its case. The larva can be seen emerging from the top of it. Caddis larvae make their cases for protection and camouflage from available materials such as water snail shells, twigs, bark and grit. They can be found in rivers and streams and in still waters such as lakes and ponds. This example was found in the Dorset Stour river. There are many different species in the UK and they also known as sedges. Photographed on a white background. Dorset England UK GB.
