To this cross-head isattached the buffer cylinder B (see fig. 85) which recoils with thegun, while the piston rod L is attached to the front of the cradle:engaging with the buffer cylinder and in the same axial line is abronze casting containing two air chambers F and G: the casting isattached to the rear of the cradle, which is supported by trunnionsE in the lower carriage.
