A North Germanic gold bracteate,5th/6th century AD. Disc-shaped pendant surrounded by a beaded edge. Image of Odin on horseback surmounted by a swastika symbol in repoussé. The top with soldered suspension loop. Diameter 32 mm,weight g. Nordic bracteates were modelled after coins and were worn as jewellery and charms. There are numerous pieces known which bear motifs from Norse mythology. Precious metal analysis(gold content 91%)included.
