FYROM Republic of Macedonia. SKOPJE Sveti Spas Holy Salvation (14-15 th century) the only remaining monastery in downtown Skopje Carsija turkish quarter. The church is built below ground because Ottoman rulers forced Christian population of the town not to build churches taller than mosques. The most famous treasure of Sveti Spas is the remains of Goce Delcev, leader of the Independence for Macedonia Revolutionaly Organisation IMRO beheaded in 1903
