Young girls watch a group of performers after having shared their own dance at a Navruz holiday program. Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Navruz is a national holiday in Uzbekistan and throughout Central Asia. Its origins are in the Persian new year, but like the rest of the region, it is now more of a spring holiday. The day has a rich heritage and many traditions specific to it. Special programs are arranged for the day throughout the country. These girls in Tashkent have just finished dancing to a national song in front of the Circus. They are now watching another group of girls perform.
