I knowsome one I liketo pose for, be-cause he paintssuch funnyfairy-slory pic-tures, and hehelps me makepaperdolls and panoramas. That ones kind, even to toads. Once he wanted to put a frog in a picture, and he went over to Staten Island and brought one back in a tin pail, and after he had painted it the frog looked at him so sorrowful and reproachful, that he couldnt bear to kill it. He said it had helped him do his work and it deserved some pay. He wouldnt throw him away just an}-- where, either, for he said the frog looked homesick for his wife and children ; so he put him back into the pail, and carried him to the very swamp where he found him, so he could be happy again in his own family.
