Pearl divers. The Japanese Kokichi Mikimoto has come up with a way to artificially make (cultivate) real” pearls. Mikimoto puts in the mantle of the young oysters a shard of mother-of-pearl and then leaves the oyster back into the sea. On that shard the oyster further manufactures mother-of-pearl, after which a real, but artificially cultivated pearl is created. Women dressed in white dive to the oysters and bring them ashore.
