In the freshly voided semen these tailportions show active undulatory whip-like motions, which persist for 24 to48 hours, and even longer under proper conditions, and enable the spermatozoato progress from point to point. Alkahes seem to favor this movement, whiledilute acids inhibit it very rapidly. This movement of the spermatozoa isclosely associated with their sexual activity, as the cells showing no movement.
