Peruvian mummy, X-ray research. Researcher Mercedes Gonzalez (left) and forensic anthropologist Angel Minaya (right) examining an X-ray of the head of the mummy of a young woman. This mummy is held at the Darder Museum in Girona, Spain. It originates from Peru and dates from around 1200 years ago. Ongoing anthropological research using forensic and X-ray techniques is attempting to discover her role in society, and her cause of death. Gonzalez is director of IECIM (insituto Estudios Cientificos en Momias). Photographed in 2013, in the Clinica Maz X-ray laboratory, in Madrid, Spain.
