Kenyan Wildlife Service ranger with buffalo snares found in Mount Elgon National Park Kenya


Kenyan Wildlife Service Rangers of the Mount Elgon Elephant tracking team. There main task is to protect the small population of Elephants that live on the slopes of Mountain Elgon and who supplement their diet by mining salt from the caves of this extinct volcano. Around 120 Elephants now live in the park. They were heavily poached in the 1990's and several were gunned down at once as they attempted to leave Kitum rangers regularly find buffalo snares that frequently injure the Elephants that live in the park.
